Renaissance - Isabella d'Este
Isabella d'Este was born on May 18, 1474. She died on February 14, 1539 at the age of 65. Isabellawas marchesa of Mantua and she was one of the women who led the Italian Renaissance. She was a big culture and political figure. After the death of her husband, Isabella ruled Mantua as regent for her son, Frederick. She began to play an important role in Italian politics. Isabella advanced Mantua's position. Her many important accomplishments include advancing Mantua to a Duchy and also got a cardinalate for her younger son. She also had great negotiations with Cesare Borgia, who had dispossessed Guidobaldo da Montefeltro, duke of Urbino, the husband of her sister-in-law and intimate friend Elisabetta Gonzaga.
