needed money. pope Leo X hires John Tetzel to go sell indulgences which are pardons from your sins, past or present. "pay for your forgiveness".
Martin Luther was a monk. started out in law school and kept on not listening to God's callings. finally went to the monistary. heard of John Tetzel. believed in justification by faith. he writes the 95 theses - 95 statements attacking indulgences. nails them to the Whitenburg church doors in Germany. Martin Luther is expelled from the Catholic church. Luther goes into hiding when he translates the Bible. protestant church came from Luther's protesting.
