Nerva

     I, Nerva, was born on the November 8, 30 A.D. I was born in Navis. My family had a history with previous Roman emperors and my great grandfather was a consol in 36 A.D. Also, I had blood relations with the line of Julio-Claudian's family.

     My emperor career began when he uncovered a plot against Nero, the emperor. Since I uncovered the plot, Nero gave me the honors of placing his statues throughout the whole palace. I had served as a consol with Vespasian in 71 A.D. and also with Domitan in 90 A.D. Around this time, I disappeared from public life.

     After the assasination of Domitan in 96 A.D. I was made emperor by the senate. I set out immediately to accomplish much. I considered Domitan in many of his decisions. Also, I renamed Domitan's palace in honor of Roman people and lived in a more modern setting. I took an oath saying he would never kill or harm and members of the Senate. Something I feel I did was great was releasing prisoners and exiles of Domitan who were not guilty of any serious crimes.

     I made a lot of progress in my work of Domitan, but I didn't make much progress in civil works. There were only a few I could think of. The forum built by Domitan to connect the forum of Augustus to the forum of Peace. I proudly named it Forum Nerva. My biggest civil accomplishment was probably repairing the Colosseum. It was damaged by a flood of the Tiber. Also, I built many granaries and continued the policy of road building and repair.

    Unfortunately, I suffered stroke while hearing a private audience in 98 A.D. and died three weeks later. My ashes are in the Mausoleum of Augustus. Quickly, Trajan became the next emperor of Rome. My emperorship is important to history because I was considered the first of "the five good emperors". My reign was not long, but it made a difference.
